If you own a second home, you probably know the feeling: you have been looking forward to the trip for weeks, and then you spend the first day cleaning, shopping and working out why something has stopped working. Most of that can be dealt with before you arrive.
Two to three weeks before
- Confirm your dates with your cleaner, gardener and pool company.
- Book any extra help you will need, especially in high season.
- Arrange any repairs you already know about, so they are finished before you land.
- Book your transfer or hire car.
In the days before
- Have the house aired, particularly after a long absence.
- Clean, and have the beds made and towels set out.
- Have the water, hot water, lights and main appliances checked.
- Test the air conditioning or the heating, according to the season.
- Check that the pool and garden are in order.
For your first evening
- Bread, milk, coffee, fruit and water in the house.
- Something simple for a late supper if you are landing after the shops close.
- Flowers on the table, if you would like them.
Before you leave again
Make a note of what ran out, what needs replacing and what could be better next time. Telling someone before you go means it can be sorted well before your next visit.
This is exactly what our home preparation service takes care of. Tell us when you are coming and what you would like.
